LOLA’S URBAN VINTAGE

541 Mass. Ave., Cambridge

Already an established entrepreneur and stylist when our paths crossed, Nicole is one of the most inspirational and creative people we’ve met. After her first season at Popportunity, she expanded into a second Pop, using every inch of both 68 sq. ft. shops to bring shoppers into her glamorous world. Today, she’s not far, thankfully.  Find her primetime at 541 Mass Ave, right around the corner from Starlight.

  • Artist Nicoletta Lyons can be described in a couple words: Chic and Edgy. A designer and photo stylist, Nicoletta creates one of a kind, reconstructed vintage and contemporary accessories. "I am inspired by the urban landscape, graffiti, and classic vintage patterns and designs". Nicoletta has a BA in Theater Arts/Costume Design from the University of Massachusetts. She began her career as costume designer for local and professional theater companies in Boston. Picasso at the Lapin Agile, Working, Macbeth and School for Scandal are among her professional credits.

After attending the Museum School of Art in Boston where she studied Jewelry/Metals, Nicoletta brought her modern and edgy design aesthetic to her jewelry and handbag line. In addition to designing accessories, Nicoletta is a free lance photo stylist in both Boston and New York. Nicoletta acted as part of the styling team for top designers Baby Phat, Rock & Republic, Alexander Herchcovitch, Abaete, Jeremy Scott and more during New York's Bryant Park Fashion Week in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2014 and 2015. Her designs have been worn by both celebrities and fashion influencers and her styling work has been seen in numerous national and international publications.

Nicoletta successfully utilized her design and marketing skills as an independent designer, stylist and entrepreneur. Lola’s evolved from Nicoletta’s passion to create affordable and cool accessories for the young, hip customer who loves fashion and the street art culture.

POPP BOUTIQUE

  • I started The Journey Within after going through a really dark period in my life. After losing my mother to cancer my family fell apart, my friends started showing their true colors and things at work were approaching unbearable. It felt as if the universe was out to get me. I felt completely isolated and alone with what I was going through. To assist with navigating through this dark time, I turned towards my spirituality, starting with meditation. Well, with so much on my mind I found it difficult to meditate. After some research I found out about candle meditation, where staring at a candle flame to help calm your mind and give you something to focus on. This worked for me and needless to say I started burning through candles like crazy! I decided to try and make a candle myself and when I did the process was so therapeutic to me that I started making my own candles regularly. From this, The Journey Within was born!

The Journey Within provides handcrafted scented goods with the encouragement of self care and mental health among our customers. We carry candles, wax melts, room and linen sprays, foaming hand soap, hand lotion, beard oil as well as several accessories like wax melters and candle snuffers. There are several amazing scents to choose from. We also make gift baskets and take custom orders! Take the time, relax your mind and allow yourself to take The Journey Within!

I appreciate any opportunity granted to assist me in connecting with customers and getting my products and brand out there. I truly appreciate any organization that creates such opportunities for small businesses like myself to thrive. THANK YOU! Connecting with customers and being able to share my story and hear some of theirs is so fulfilling to me. I feel like at some point or another everyone is forced to take “The Journey Within” and figure out life for themselves by themselves. I would love to be a part of the Winter Market to share my story, energy and amazing products with those in Cambridge.

In addition to Popportunity at Starlight Square, I have vended at Bow Market, Hood Park in Charlestown through Boston Women’s Market, and Somerfest through Black Owned Bos.

  • A gifted woman, daughter, mother, artist and most importantly a 2x survivor of Guilian Barre Syndrome and Breast Cancer. These illnesses which could have killed her, only made me stronger and enhanced her love for creating and healing.

Nita has always had a knack for artsy things and having acquired a B.S. in Studio Arts. She used her talents as part of her rehabilitation process to help regain the use of her hands. Nita's art became an outlet for her to express emotions regarding everything she had overcame. These experiences fueled her desire to understand how the mind can help you heal. Metaphysical tools and practices played a crucial part in the woman she is today.

Her rekindled passion for LOVE, LIFE, ART and HEALING has allowed Nita to show her daughters that no matter how tough life gets or how ugly it may seem, it is up to you to create your own HAPPINESS.

  • I developed iLoveFGC, an online boutique, as a way to share my love of fashion with the world. Our goal is to make every woman embrace their inner Fly Girl! We put so much love into this brand to bring you amazing pieces.

We are in the process of building a showroom in Dakar where we currently manufacture our clothing line. I love traveling to Senegal and finding fabulous fabrics to produce our pieces. We also partner with several artisans in Dakar, Senegal to bring beautiful handcrafted accessories directly to you.

We are a black owned, woman owned business and not only are we a boutique but we are also makers.

  • Comfort Kitchen

611 Columbia Road, Dorchester, MA 02115

COVID-19 delays slowed Comfort Kitchen’s delicious plans for their restaurant in Upham’s Corner, Dorchester. Lucky for us, they were game to join us in 2021 as our food and drink partner.
