At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Popportunity started as an outdoor pop-up market. Then, we designed, built, and ran a mini Main Street of 14 pop-up shops on a former parking lot. Now, we’re changing the face of Mass Ave, one storefront at a time. That’s growth. That’s what Popportunity is all about.
Since our start in 2020, Popportunity has championed entrepreneurs from Cambridge and beyond by rethinking how public space is used and how resources are shared. After initial support from the Central Square BID and Flagg Street Studio, we became our own 501c3 non-profit in 2022. Popportunity continues to evolve at Starlight Square while adding new sites, providing a variety of vending opportunities to local entrepreneurs—from one-day carts and seasonal Pop-Up Shops to subleases at brick-and-mortar stores.
In just two years, we are now the largest affordable retail program in the city of Cambridge.
